WEST WINDSOR, NJ – The No. 1 seed Monmouth University men's tennis team swept No. 4 Marist in the MAAC semifinals on Saturday morning, 4-0.
The Hawks won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 (
Max Benaim and
Sergio Martinez) and No. 3 (
Will Cooke Wharton and
Charles Gortzounian.
Cooke Wharton also won at No. 1 singles to clinch, 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore
Victor Castro earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. Sophomore
Gabriel Busato won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Monmouth improves to 13-2 on the season, and has won eleven straight matches. The Hawks will face No. 2 Fairfield in the championship tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
