POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Monmouth University softball team swept Marist on Saturday, edging the Red Foxes 4-3 before a 4-1 victory.  
 
Senior pitcher Alyssa Irons (Rock Creek, OH/Jefferson Area/Hofstra) earned the complete game win in the opener, tossing eight total innings with eight strikeouts.
 
Junior Lindsey Baron (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) hit a two-run home run to tie the game in the top of the seventh, and senior Deangie Jimenez (Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland) hit the eventual game-winning two-RBI single in the eighth.
 
In game two, Jimenez gave Monmouth the lead in the top of the fifth with a solo home run, and senior Morgan Maziarz (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford Area) broke it open in the seventh with a three-run shot to left center.
 
Sophomore Kylie Gletow (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) earned the win, allowing just five hits and one earned run in six innings.
 
Monmouth improves to 10-4 (10-4 MAAC) on the season, and will face Marist again tomorrow.
 
NOTES
-In game one, Marist took a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second with a solo home run.
-The Red Foxes extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single.
-In the top of the seventh, sophomore Riley Riendeau was hit by a pitch with one out. Baron then launched a two-run home run to left center to lock the game at 2-2.
-Marist put a runner on third in the bottom half, but Irons forced a groundout to send it to extras.
-In the top of the eighth, freshman Devin Coia was hit by a pitch and senior Katie Harrington bumped her to third with a double down the left field line.
-Jimenez gave Monmouth the eventual game-winning runs with a two-RBI single to center field.
 
-Game two was a pitcher's duel, as neither team scored in the first four innings.
-In the top of the fifth, Jimenez led off with a homer to put Monmouth ahead 1-0.
-Harrington reached on a fielder's choice in the top of the seventh, and advanced to third on a single from freshman Abby Warner.
-Maziarz brought them both home with a three-run blast, making it 4-0.
-Marist cut the deficit to 4-1 in the bottom half with a solo home run, but Irons came in to seal the win, retiring three straight batters.
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Irons improved her record to 7-2 on the season. She has pitched 63.0 innings with 61 strikeouts and a 1.67 ERA.
-Jimenez now has eight RBI on the season. She hit her first home run of the season, and sixth of her career.
-Baron hit the 14th home run of her career, and first of this season.
-Maziarz went long for the first time this season, and fourth of her career.
-Gletow improved to 3-2 on the season.
