WOMEN’S SOCCER OPENS SEASON WITH WIN OVER IONA

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Monmouth University women's soccer team opened its 2020-21 season with a 3-0 victory over Iona on Tuesday afternoon at Mazzella Field.

Playing their first game since November 16, 2019, the Hawks struck first when senior midfielder Ashley DellaPietro scored the first goal of her career in the 17th minute. The Hawks added to their lead early in the second half when Sarina Jones converted a penalty kick and then put the game out of reach on Lauren Karabin's goal in the 68th minute.

Goalkeeper Maddie Odgen was credited with three saves in her first-career shutout.

- Ashley DellaPietro scored the first goal of her career. 
- Lauren Karabin scored her fifth-career goal and now has 17 points in her career.
- Sarina Jones scored her third-career goal and is now 2-for-2 on penalty kicks in her career.
- Sammy Jones registered her first-career assist on Karabin's goal.
- Maddie Ogden made three saves and earned her first shutout.
- Monmouth outshot Iona, 18-3, including 7-3 in shots on goal. 
- Monmouth earned eight corner kicks and Iona had three.
