WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's soccer team overcame two deficits in an eventual 2-2 draw against visiting Fairfield on Tuesday evening at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.
The rematch of the 2019 MAAC Championship pitted the top two teams in the 2020-21 MAAC preseason poll and the Stags came out with a goal six minutes into the game. Monmouth leveled the score nine minutes later on a successful penalty kick by
Maddison Perna.
Fairfield regained the lead in the 28
th minute, but the lead was short-lived as the Stags put in an own goal a little more than eight minutes later. Neither side was able to break the deadlock through the rest of regulation or two overtime periods.
