WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – A pair of goals by Maddison Perna proved to be the difference for the Monmouth University women's soccer team as the Hawks knocked off Rider in a 2-1 decision on Tuesday evening at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn. 
 
Perna found the back of the net in the 53rd minute with a right-footed shot following a nice buildup in the midfield, then scored again on a highlight-reel header in the 69th minute. 

Rider made things interesting with an 86th minute tally, but the Hawks ultimately held on to the one-goal margin.

- Monmouth leads the all-time series against Rider, 13-4-3.
- The Hawks improve to 3-1-1 on the season and are the third team to win three games this season, joining Siena (3-0-0) and Manhattan (3-1-0).

- Maddison Perna registered her first-career multi-goal game. 
- Perna leads the Hawks with four goals this season.
- Perna now has seven goals in her career and five game winners.
- Alexis Marino, Jazlyn Oviedo and Lauren Karabin each had assists in the game.
- Ovideo picked up her first-career point, Marino's assist was her first point of the season and Karabin's assist was her third of the year. 
- Rebecca Winslow made three saves in goal for the Hawks.
- Shots favored Monmouth 15-13, with the Hawks having an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
- Monmouth took five corner kicks and Rider earned four.

NEXT UP
Monmouth will complete its regular season schedule on Saturday when it travels to Loudonville, NY for a 4 p.m. kickoff against Siena.
