MONMOUTH WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS FAIRFIELD OPENER

FAIRFIELD, CT – Holding the Hawks to 7-of-50 (14%) from the floor, Fairfield defeated the Monmouth University women's basketball team on Saturday, 51-21.
In a defensive battle, the Stags held Monmouth to two points in the first half, including a scoreless second quarter.
Three players scored in double-figures for the Stags, including junior Andrea Hernangomez who compiled 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Freshman
Belle Kranbuhl (Boonville, NY/Adirondack Central) led the Hawks with six points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.
Redshirt junior
Jen Louro (Wall, NJ/St. Rose/UMass Lowell) added five points and five rebounds in the loss.
Monmouth drops to 2-12 (2-8 MAAC) on the season, and will face Fairfield again tomorrow.

-The game remained scoreless until Fairfield's Lopez-Senechal hit a jumper with 4:58 left in the first quarter.
-The teams combined to shoot 1-of-24 (Monmouth 0-13, Fairfield 1-11) to begin the game. By the end of the first quarter, the Stags held a 5-2 lead.
-The Stags outscored the Hawks 13-0 in the second quarter. At halftime, the home team led 18-2.

Gabrielle Wener opened the second half scoring with a jumper from the elbow. Louro later buried a corner triple and freshman
Ariana Vanderhoop followed with two free throws to cut the deficit to 14.
-Each team scored 13 points in the third quarter. Heading into the final frame, Fairfield held a 31-15 lead.
-The Stags closed the game with a 20-6 advantage in the fourth to seal the win.
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Monmouth started five freshmen for the first time since at least 2000.
-The Hawks were a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

-Fairfield held Monmouth to 1-of-18 from long range.
-The Stags scored 13 points off of 16 Monmouth turnovers.

-Fairfield won the rebounding battle 49-38.
