WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS AT FAIRFIELD

Fairfield Stags (10-4, 9-3 MAAC) – 60
 
FAIRFIELD, CT – Despite a nine-point advantage in the second half, the Monmouth University women's basketball team fell to Fairfield on Sunday afternoon, 60-46.
 
The Hawks outscored the Stags 20-11 in the fourth quarter, making five three-pointers in the frame, but Fairfield's strong first half proved to be the difference.
 
Redshirt junior Jen Louro (Wall, NJ/St. Rose/UMass Lowell) led the way with a season-high 19 points, shooting 5-of-10 from long range. Louro also added four rebounds in 34 minutes.
 
Freshman Jania Hall (Gaithersburg, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) was also efficient from beyond the arc, nailing three out of five attempts to finish with 12 points.
 
Freshman Ariana Vanderhoop (Boston, MA/Cathedral) went into double-figures for the second time in the last three games, ending with 10 points and four assists in the loss.  
 
Monmouth drops to 2-13 (2-9 MAAC) on the season, and will host Siena on Wednesday.   
 
NOTES AND QUOTES

-Fairfield made five of its first six shots to take an early 13-2 lead.
-Freshman Gabrielle Wener buried a quick triple late in the first quarter. She was followed by a Vanderhoop jumper to cut the deficit to nine. By the end of the frame, Fairfield led 20-9.  
-Midway through the second, Louro connected on a three on the wing. The Stags answered with a 10-0 run and led 38-15 at the half.
-Monmouth opened the third on an 8-2 run, including triples from Louro and Hall.
-Each team eventually scored 11 points in the third quarter, and the Stags maintained a 23-point lead heading into the last quarter.
-The Hawks registered an 8-0 run in the middle of the fourth, including three-pointers from Louro and Hall.
-Two more triples from Louro and Hall got the run up to 14-1. Monmouth trailed 52-40 with 2:56 remaining.
-Fairfield's Lopez-Senechal hit two from long range over the last 2:33, sealing the win for the Stags.
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Louro, Hall, Vanderhoop, and Wener accounted for all 46 of Monmouth's points.
-Monmouth's bench held a 19-7 advantage, all from Louro.
-Monmouth's 10 made three-pointers were a season high.
-Hall leads the team with 8.9 points per game.
-Louro jumped up to 7.9 points per game, which ranks second on the team.
-In the fourth quarter, the Hawks shot 7-of-14 (50.0%) from the floor and 5-of-7 (71.4%) from deep.
-Fairfield scored 16 points off of 16 Monmouth turnovers.
