WOMEN'S SOCCER CLAIMS MAAC TOURNAMENT TITLE

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – An offensive barrage and stout defensive performance helped the Monmouth women's soccer team top Quinnipiac, 4-0, and capture its sixth MAAC Tournament title in program history.

Four different Hawks (15-4-1, 9-1-1 MAAC) scored in the championship win opposite the Bobcats (13-5-1, 7-4 MAAC), while the defense did its job, posting its second consecutive shutout.

For the second straight outing, Monmouth scored in the opening 10 minutes of action. It was Lauren Bruno delivering a booming strike off a corner from Jesi Rossman. In the 28th minute, Chloe Ferreira sent a ball to a streaking A'Liah Moore down the right side and the senior setup Rossman for a goal to put the Hawks up 2-0 in the 28th minute.

Heading into the second half up by two goals, the Monmouth offense did not slow down. Alexis Marino, who got the start in the second half found the back of the net in the 57th minute off the feed from Rossman, before Lauren Karabin tallied the Hawks' fourth and final goal of the afternoon in the 82nd minute with Bruno and Moore both picking up the assist.

Karabin was named the MAAC Tournament MVP while Bruno, Rossman and Rebecca Winslow earned all-tournament team honors.
