MEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN DOUBLE OVERTIME TO MANHATTAN

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth men's soccer team fell in a double-overtime MAAC contest, 2-1, to Manhattan on Wednesday night at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.

The Hawks (7-6-2, 5-3-0 MAAC) trailed 1-0 after allowing a Jaspers' (5-7-2, 3-4-1 MAAC) score in the 24th minute. However, with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Monmouth earned a free kick once Julian Gomez was tripped up just outside the box. Ben Zakowski took the kick and buried it into the top left corner to even the score.

In the second overtime period, Manhattan had a shot ricochet off the right post before it was headed past a diving Sean Murray and into the goal to seal the 2-1 win.

-Zakowski notched his fifth goal of the season and his second in as many games.
-He has scored in back-to-back matches three times in his career.
-The junior has compiled 12 points in his last six outings.
-Murray made two saves in goal for the Hawks.
