MONMOUTH TOPPED BY PURPLE EAGLES IN ROAD TILT

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Monmouth men's soccer team dropped a road MAAC contest, 2-0, to Niagara on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks (7-7-2, 5-4-0 MAAC) fell behind 1-0 early after the Purple Eagles (7-9-0, 5-4-0 MAAC) found the back of the net in the ninth minute of action. Niagara held its lead for the remainder of the half before adding an insurance goal in the 70th minute on a header off a free kick.

Monmouth placed eight shots on the goal in the contest, but the Niagara goalkeeper was able to keep the Hawks off the board.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"Credit to Niagara. They have a good team. Bill [Doyle] has done a great job with his program. We played well for long stretches of the game but gave up two goals on set pieces. Our conference is very competitive and pretty much anyone can beat anyone on a given day. I got a great group of guys that need to get healthy in time for the conference tournament."
-Head Coach Rob McCourt

-Sean Murray made six saves in goal for Monmouth.
-Eight of the 17 shots by the Hawks were placed on goal.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Monmouth moves to 7-7-2 overall and 5-4-0 in MAAC play.
-The Hawks and Purple Eagles finished with 17 shots apiece.
-Niagara held the edge in corners, 3-2.

UP NEXT
-The Hawks will head to Loudonville, N.Y., on Wednesday to face off against Siena at 2 p.m. in the regular season finale.
