5 QUESTIONS WITH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH ANDY BOBIK

Can you go through how you ended up coaching at Monmouth 27+ years ago and what made you decide to come and start up a new program with Coach Callahan?

Andy Bobik We started working together at Colgate in 1987.  Kevin [Callahan] started at MU summer 1992, I was unemployed starting summer and he asked me to join him for 1993 season.  Jumped at the chance to help start something new.  I quickly realized MU had great people supporting Kevin and his vision.

If you could describe how you want your defenses to be remembered, what would it be?

AB Always like to hear that our players play hard, physical and tackle well!  I really value smart players who can do the job.

When you are recruiting a player for the Monmouth defense – what do you look for? What traits?

AB Good student-athletes; tough, physical players; need to be a good tackler.

You've had better than a front row seat for almost every season of Monmouth football – does any one season stand out to you? Why? Does any group of players stand out to you? If so why?

AB First championship team 1996 NEC Co-Champs, started from scratch; 2003 Co-Champs, dominating defensive group; 2019 Big South Champs, grinded to the top!

You're an avid golfer. What has been your favorite course to play on? Who would fill out your dream foursome?

AB Love playing at Seven Oaks at Colgate. It would be a fivesome, my three younger brothers and I never had the opportunity to play together with our father.

Coach Bobik has led the Monmouth defense for 26 out of the 27 seasons that Monmouth University has sponsored football. During that time he has helped lead Monmouth to six conference championships, two playoff appearances and has mentored nine players who have garnered All-America designation. Bobik and his wife Victoria live in Monmouth County with their daughter.
