SAN DIEGO, CA - Monmouth University Baseball (3-7) scored seven times in the final innings and cut into the University of San Diego (9-2) lead, but couldn't complete the comeback, falling in the series finale 11-7.
The home team jumped to the lead, scoring twice in the first before a pair of three-run innings made it 8-0. After two scoreless frames, San Diego extended the lead to 11-0 with another three-run stanza, this one in the sixth.
MU got back in it in the seventh and eighth, starting with a four-run seventh.
JP Walsh (Spring Brook Township, PA/North Pocono) and
Dennis Filipovski (Ormond Beach, FL/Seabreeze/St. Petersburg College) singled in runs before
Johnny Zega (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) singled back up the middle to plate a pair and make it 11-4. The Blue and White went right back to work in the eighth, with Filipovski driving in a run with an infield hit before
Harry Padden (Pittsgrove, NJ/AP Schalick) picked up his second extra-base hit in as many games, tripling home two more to cut it to 11-7.
In the ninth,
Robbie Holmes (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) led off with a double before
Phil Stahl (Levittown, PA/Holy Ghost Preparatory) got aboard with an infield hit.
Danny Long (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) followed with a line shot to right center that was run down before a line-drive double play ended the Hawks threat.

-Seven runs is Monmouth's second highest output of the season.
