SAN DIEGO, CA - Monmouth University Baseball (3-6) got a strong outing from
Rob Hensey (Campbell Hall, NY/Goshen) and a three-run homer off the bat of
Robbie Holmes (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards), but the University of San Diego (8-2) topped MU in 10 innings Saturday, 4-3.
After Hensey delivered five shutout frames,
Jake Catalano (Southampton, NJ/St. Augustine Prep/RCGC) drew a leadoff walk before freshman
Harry Padden (Pittsgrove, NJ/AP Schalick) doubled off the left field wall. Holmes then came up with two away and crushed a 2-0 offering over the right field fence to make it 3-0 Hawks.
Following a quick seventh, Hensey returned to the hill for the eighth where USD got the leadoff man aboard via a close hit by pitch. Caleb Ricketts eventually drove in that run with two outs, and following another tight hit batter, Shane McGuire doubled home a pair to tie the game. Ricketts would then deliver the game-winning RBI on a single up the middle in the 10
