STATESBORO, GA – In the last day of Georgia Southern's Eagle Round Robin, the Monmouth University softball team defeated Evansville, 7-1.

Alyssa Irons (Rock Creek, OH/Jefferson Area) pitched her sixth complete game of the season, giving up just one run while striking out 10 batters.

Senior
Kayla Rosado (Oradell, NJ/River Dell) continued her hot start to the season, picking up a two-RBI single to extend the lead in the sixth inning.

Amanda Hopeck (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills) went 3-for-4 in the win, including an RBI single and two runs. Â

Monmouth improves to 5-5 on the season, and will compete in the Coastal Carolina Invitational next weekend.

-Monmouth raced ahead with three runs in the top of the first. Sophomore
Lindsey Baron led off with a walk, and senior
Sam Tomasetti moved her to third with a single. Baron ended up scoring on a double steal.
-Hopeck later singled through the right side to bring home Tomasetti to make it 2-0.
-Back-to-back walks from junior
Erika Coreth and freshman
Riley Riendeau loaded the bases. Stowers made it 3-0 with a single through the right side.
-In the top of the third, Hopeck led off with a single and a stolen base. Stowers later reached on a fielding error and Hopeck scored on the play.
-On a wild play, senior
Deangie Jimenez reached on a fielder's choice, and was eventually thrown out in a rundown. Harrington advanced to third, and later scored on a throwing error to put Monmouth up 5-0.
-Evansville got a run back in the bottom of the third on a double steal.
-In the top of the sixth, junior
Morgan Maziarz and Baron both walked and stole bases to put runners on second and third with no outs. Rosado picked up a two-RBI single to center field to make it 7-1.
-The Purple Aces singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Irons closed the door with back-to-back outs to end the game.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-In 10 games this season, Rosado is batting .457 (16-for-35) with 11 RBI.
-Irons has 41 complete games in 43 starts over the last two seasons. She's 34-14 with a 1.58 ERA in that span. Â
-Hopeck is second on the team with a .375 batting average this season.
-Senior
Tommi Stowers started for the first time this season, while freshman
Riley Riendeau got the start at third base.
-Baron walked twice and had two runs.

The Hawks will travel to Conway, South Carolina to compete in the Coastal Carolina Invitational next weekend. Opponents include UMES, Coastal Carolina, Ohio, and USC Upstate.
