ROSADO’S FOUR RBI LEAD SOFTBALL OVER FURMAN, 6-1

STATESBORO, GA – Senior Kayla Rosado (Oradell, NJ/River Dell) notched four RBI and junior Alyssa Irons (Rock Creek, OH/Jefferson Area) tossed a complete game to lead the Monmouth University softball team over Furman on Friday, 6-1.  
 
Rosado went 3-for-4 in the game with a two-run home run and two RBI singles. The first baseman leads the team with a .500 batting average this season and nine RBI.
 
After giving up two doubles to start the game, Irons threw six scoreless innings and allowed just two hits the rest of the way.
 
Sophomore Lindsey Baron (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) scored three runs in the win in addition to an RBI double.
 
Monmouth improves to 3-4 on the season, and continue Georgia Southern's Eagle Round Robin Tournament with two games tomorrow.  
 
NOTES AND QUOTES

-Furman started off the game with back-to-back doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Irons set down the next three batters to end the inning.
-In the bottom of the first, Monmouth picked up three straight hits. After senior Sam Tomasetti doubled, Baron brought her home with a double. One batter later, Rosado made it 2-1 with an RBI single.
-With the bases loaded and two outs, junior Morgan Maziarz smoked a ground ball to the shortstop and junior Erika Coreth beat the play to third. Monmouth led 3-1 after one.
-Baron reached on a dropped fly in the bottom of the second, and Rosado made them pay with another RBI single to center field.
-After giving up the two doubles in the first inning, Irons retired 12 straight batters.
-The Hawks sealed the win in the bottom of the sixth, as Rosado blasted a two-run home run to left center. Baron scored on the play after drawing a walk.
-Irons forced two groundouts and struck out the last batter for the win.
 
UP NEXT
The Hawks will face Maryland (12:30 PM) and Georgia Southern (5:30 PM) tomorrow.
