MADEIRA BEACH, FL – In the last day of THE Spring Games in Florida, the Monmouth University softball team fell to South Dakota, 3-1, before dropping an 8-4 result to Georgia State.

Sam Tomasetti (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) launched a two-run home run in the nightcap, the 13

Alyssa Irons (Rock Creek, OH/Jefferson Area) pitched 6.0 innings in game one, giving up three earned runs and striking out three batters.

Kylie Gletow (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) tossed 3.2 innings in game two, allowing one earned run.

Monmouth's drops to 2-4 on the season, and will compete in Georgia Southern's Eagle Round Robin Tournament next weekend. Â

-In game one, South Dakota got on the board first in the bottom of the second. An RBI single through the left side made it 1-0.
-The Hawks tied the game in the top of the fourth. Wozniak singled to lead off the inning, and moved to second on a groundout.
-Hopeck made it 1-1 with an RBI double to left center. She was later thrown out at home after a Maziarz single.
-South Dakota scored the deciding runs in the bottom of the fifth. Two singles were wiped out by a pick off and caught stealing. With two outs, the Coyotes singled. The next batter doubled to right center, and the runner scored on a fielding error.
-An RBI single to right center scored another run for South Dakota, making it 3-1.
-In the top of the seventh, Hopeck singled and advanced to second on a groundout, but the Hawks fouled out and struck out to end the game.

-In game two, Georgia State began the scoring with an RBI double in the top of the first.
-Monmouth tied it in the bottom of the third, as Jimenez scored on an error.
-The Panthers extended their lead to 5-1 in the top of the fourth, scoring on a throwing error and a two-RBI single.
-Georgia State tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth to go ahead 8-1, including an RBI single, an RBI double, and a bases loaded hit by pitch.
-Monmouth answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. After Maziarz hit a lead off single, Tomasetti brought her home two batters later with a home run to left center.
-Later, Baron was hit by a pitch and Rosado sent her to third with a double. The next batter Wozniak hit an RBI double to right field to score Baron.
-With runners on second and third with one out, the next two Monmouth batters struck out.
-Junior
Christine Frazee tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in relief.
