HAWKS FALL TO SAINT JOSEPH’S IN NON-CONFERENCE FINALE

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Shooting 51.6% (32-62) from the field, Saint Joseph's defeated the Monmouth University women's basketball team on Tuesday, 80-52.
 
Ten different players scored for St. Joe's, and the home team drilled 10 total three-pointers.  
 
Redshirt junior Jen Louro (Wall, NJ/St. Rose) led Monmouth in scoring again with 12 points, including 5-of-7 from the free throw line.
 
Freshman Gabrielle Wener (Oakland, ME/Messalonskee) went into double figures for the first time in her career, adding 10 points on 2-of-2 from deep.
 
After earning her first career start, freshman Jania Hall (Gaithersburg, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) scored double digits for the second consecutive game with 10 points.
 
Monmouth drops to 0-4 on the season, and will travel to Saint Peter's this weekend for the MAAC openers.
 
NOTES AND QUOTES

-Wener hit a triple to start the scoring once again, but Saint Joseph's answered with a 14-0 run.
-St. Joe's eventually outscored Monmouth 29-9 in the opening frame, shooting 12-of-15 (80%) from the field.
-The home team made their first six shots from long range. Monmouth battled back with an 8-0 run in the middle of the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 36-20.
-Saint Joseph's took a 45-24 lead into halftime, as nine different players scored.
-Monmouth shot 1-of-11 to open the third quarter, and St. Joe's took advantage with a 9-0 run.
-Saint Joseph's eventually outscored the Hawks 22-9 in the third on 8-of-12 from the field, taking a 67-33 advantage into the fourth.
-The Blue & White started to heat up on offense in the final frame, shooting 6-of-11 from the field and scoring 19 points, but Saint Joseph's held on for the 80-52 win.
 
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Louro went into double figures for the second straight game (15 against Drexel, 12 at St. Joe's). She leads the team with 10.3 points per game through four.
-Hall went into double figures for the second straight game (13 against Drexel, 10 at St. Joe's). She's now averaging 8.3 points per contest, good for second on the team.
-Wener has started all four games this season, and bumps her scoring average up to 6.3. She is 6-of-14 (42.9%) from beyond the arc.
-Junior Lucy Thomas registered nine points and seven rebounds in the loss.
-Junior Alexa Wallace played in her first game of the year, scoring five points to go along with three steals.
-Sophomore Destiny Jackson scored a career-high six points and grabbed three rebounds.
-Monmouth had a season-low 12 turnovers.
-Saint Joseph's held a 22-2 advantage in fast break points.
 
UP NEXT
The Hawks will remain on the road to face Saint Peter's on Friday and Saturday.  Monmouth holds a 27-13 all-time series lead, including four straight wins.
