WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ- In the team's first contest in 40 days, the Monmouth University women's basketball team was defeated by Manhattan in its MAAC opener, 58-45.
The Jaspers forced 31 turnovers and held a 17-7 advantage on the offensive glass, leading to 24 more field goal attempts (66-42).
Freshman
Jania Hall (Gaithersburg, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) scored in double-figures for the third straight game, leading the team with 13 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor.
Junior
Lucy Thomas (Ocean, NJ/St. Rose) added eight points and four rebounds in the loss.
Freshman
Belle Kranbuhl (Boonville, NY/Adirondack Central) grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds, the most for any Monmouth player this season.
Monmouth falls to 0-5 on the season, and will host Manhattan tomorrow at 7:00 PM.

-Monmouth made its first three shots of the game to take an early 6-2 lead.
-Hall made an acrobatic and-one layup towards the end of the first quarter after getting tripped. Hall netted nine points in the opening frame, and the Hawks led 15-12 heading into the second.
-Junior guard Sydney Watkins led the comeback for the Jaspers, drilling three shots from beyond the arc in the second quarter. Manhattan outscored Monmouth 19-12 in the frame, and took a 31-27 lead into halftime.
-Monmouth scored the first six points of the third to take the lead, as Thomas, Hall, and Kranbuhl connected on layups.
-The Jaspers used a 7-0 run at the end of the third to regain the lead. Manhattan held Monmouth without a point in that span for 2:25.
-After taking a slight 14-12 advantage in the third period, Manhattan led 45-39 heading into the fourth.
-The Jaspers continued their strong defense in the final frame, holding the Hawks to six points. Manhattan eventually took the 58-45 win.
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Hall has compiled 36 points over the last three games. With a perfect day from the field, she increased her field goal percentage to 50.0% on the season.
-Kranbuhl and Thomas are tied for the team lead with 27 rebounds.

Alexa Wallace was in the starting lineup for the first time this season.

Jen Louro added seven points and six rebounds in the loss. She leads the team with 9.6 PPG.

Destiny Jackson matched a career high of six points.
-Monmouth held Manhattan to just 32% from the floor.
-The Hawks held a 37-35 advantage in total rebounds.
