WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – An 8-0 run to end the game propelled Canisius over the Monmouth University women's basketball team on Saturday, 71-62.

Rosa Graham (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit to one with 3:40 left, but the Golden Griffins answered with a layup, a triple, and three free throws while forcing Monmouth to miss its last ten shots.

Alexa Middleton (Philadelphia, PA/Abington Friends) led the Hawks with 18 points and 14 rebounds, registering her third double-double of the season.
Sophomore
Lucy Thomas (Ocean, NJ/St. Rose) added 15 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.

Sierra Green (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis/Monroe CC) scored 15 points in the loss, making four three-pointers.
Monmouth drops to 4-8 (1-2 MAAC) on the season, and will continue MAAC play at Fairfield on Thursday.

-Canisius used a 7-0 run early in the first quarter to go ahead 9-5, but Monmouth got a jumper from Thomas to get back within two.
-A layup from Middleton and a running floater from sophomore
Allure Simmons to close the first quarter tied the game at 14-14.
-The Hawks hit three triples in the first two minutes of the second quarter, including one from Thomas and two from Green. Monmouth took a 23-15 lead.
-After Monmouth led by as many as eight, Canisius battled back, scored the last four points of the half and trailed 34-33 at the break.
-A back-and-forth third quarter was highlighted by six points and five rebounds from Middleton. The Golden Griffins ended the frame on a 7-0 run, and led 52-49 heading into the fourth.
-Canisius scored the first five points of the final quarter, forcing Monmouth to call a timeout down 57-49.
-After the timeout, Monmouth answered with a 6-0 run to get within two. Middleton, Jennings, and Green each connected on layups.
-Graham buried a corner three from Green to cut the deficit to one with 3:40 remaining. Canisius answered with an 8-0 run to seal the win.
