WOMEN’S SOCCER RUNS PAST MARIST

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 3 (4-2-2, 2-0-0 MAAC)
Marist 0 (3-6-1, 0-1-1 MAAC)

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ –   Three first half goals sent the Monmouth University women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Marist on Saturday evening at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn.

Following an impressive early save by Amanda Knaub on a breakaway that kept the match scoreless, Monmouth capitalized on three Marist miscues with goals on set pieces during a 13-minute stretch.

Madie Gibson's free kick from 23 yards out on the corner of the penalty area was played to the far post where Jill Conklin ran onto and headed the bouncing ball inside the post. Conklin's 27th minute goal put Monmouth ahead for good.

Monmouth drew two penalty kicks in the 35th and 39th minute that led to goals for the Hawks. Dana Scheriff  was taken down before Jess Johnson scored to make it 2-0. Johnson's penalty attempt was saved, but she calmly knocked in the rebound that bounced right back to her. A little more than four minutes later, Alexa Correa was fouled in the area and Lexie Palladino buried the ensuing PK.

The Hawks never looked back in the 3-0 decision.
