MONMOUTH BASEBALL FALLS IN EXTRAS AT CANISIUS, 3-2

BUFFALO, NY – Despite leading 2-0 for the majority of the game, Monmouth University Baseball (18-26-1, 6-10) was defeated by Canisius College (22-21, 15-4) on Saturday 3-2 in 10 innings. The Golden Griffins scored twice in the eighth inning to tie it before winning on Cole Hollins' run-scoring ground out in the 10th.

MU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, scoring on an error before Johnny Zega (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) singled home a second run to give James Kelly (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) a lead. Kelly worked 4.2 scoreless innings before Ryan Lillie (Ocean, NJ/Ocean Township/Rhode Island) came on to finish the fifth before firing two more clean innings.

A pair of infield singles put two on for Canisius in the eighth before Jacob Victor hit a two-run double to tie the game. The score would remain tied into extra innings, when a walk and a base hit put runners on the corners with one out, setting up Hollins' ground out to win the game for the Griffs.
