NEW YORK, NY – A single Columbia University (14-15) run in the second-inning proved to be the difference, as the Lions topped Monmouth University Baseball (14-21-1) 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Satow Stadium. MU had the tying run at second in the ninth but couldn't score, while Joshua Solomon's RBI single in the second provided the only scoring of the day, an unearned run.
Monmouth left runners on in each of the first four innings, including runners in scoring position in the three of the four. Columbia converted its second-inning opportunity with Solomon's RBI single to center, but
Evan Ferris (Middleboro, MA/Coyle and Cassidy) rallied to strand a pair of Lions in the inning. MU had a chance in the ninth with a runner at second and two away, but
Nick Campana's (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) bid came up just short and was caught at the warning track to end the game.
