MONMOUTH BASEBALL SHUTS OUT UMES SATURDAY, 3-0

SALISBURY, MD – Led by a combined shutout from pitchers sophomore Dan Klepchick (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) and fifth-year senior Ryan Lillie (Ocean, NJ/Ocean Township/Rhode Island), Monmouth University Baseball (2-8) defeated the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (3-12) on Saturday afternoon, 3-0.

After Zach Schild (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) doubled down the right field line in the top of the sixth, JP Walsh (Spring Brook Township, PA/North Pocono) singled him home to give Monmouth the first run of the game.

Lillie took the mound in the bottom of the sixth after five scoreless innings from Klepchick, who gave up just two hits in the win. Despite two straight outs to begin the top of the seventh, Kyle Norman (Ellicott City, MD/Good Counsel) reached on a bunt single to the pitcher. JD Andreessen (Depew, NY/Lancaster) sent him over to third with a double down the left field line, and Johnny Zega (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) gave the Hawks some breathing room with a two-RBI double to left center.

Lillie gathered the four-inning save, giving up just two hits in his 15 batters faced. He did not allow a runner to go past second base.
