MIAMI, FL – Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Monmouth University softball team scored three runs for the walk-off win against Columbia on Friday, 4-3, before falling to Rutgers in game two, 2-1. The Hawks got timely hits from freshman
Lindsey Baron, junior
Kayla Rosado, and junior
Amanda Hopeck before freshman
Danielle Dominik hit the game-winning groundout to score Rosado. In game two, Baron hit her first career home run in the sixth, but it was not enough as the Hawks were edged by the Scarlet Knights. Sophomore
Alyssa Irons pitched all 13 innings on the day, giving up just four earned runs and striking out 10 batters. In the game one win, Rosado went 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. She now leads the team with a .368 batting average. Monmouth's record now stands at 3-4 on the season, and will have two more games tomorrow at FIU's Panther Invitational against Columbia and FIU. Â

NOTES AND QUOTES
Â
"We had two quality games today, and it was encouraging to see Alyssa throw two complete games. She did a great job of keeping both teams off-balance. We did a really good job of battling back in game one. We've talked a lot about having quality at bats, and that's exactly what we did. No one tried to be the hero, and it worked out well. It was nice to see that grit. In game two, we adjusted offensively but it was a little too late. We're going to work on adjusting earlier so we can put more pressure on the defense." –
Monmouth head coach Shannon Salsburg
