Alyssa Irons and two-run home runs from juniors
Amber Wozniak and
Amanda Hopeck, the Monmouth University softball team defeated Holy Cross on Sunday morning, 5-0. Irons tossed her second-straight complete game win, giving up just three hits with six strikeouts. Wozniak went 2-for-3 with the two-run homer and an RBI double. Hopeck hit her second career homer in the bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach. Junior
Kayla Rosado went 3-for-3 in the win, including two singles, a double, and a run scored. Monmouth improves to 2-3 on the season, and will continue play at FIU's Panther Invitational next weekend. Â Â

-With two outs and no one on in the bottom of the third, Rosado came through with a single. Wozniak was the next batter, and gave Monmouth a 2-0 lead with a home run to center field.
-Irons only faced nine batters in the first three innings. She gave up a single, but forced a double play the next at bat.
-Rosado came up with another two out hit in the bottom of the fifth, this time with a double down the right field line. Senior
Jasmine Higa came in to pinch run, and Wozniak sent her home with a double to left field.
-Hopeck was the very next batter, and crushed a ball to left field to put Monmouth ahead 5-0.
-Irons shut down Holy Cross in the final two innings, ending the game with a 1-2-3 seventh.

The Hawks will play in FIU's Panther Invitational next weekend, beginning with Columbia and Rutgers on Friday.
