WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University football players
Tymere Berry (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South),
Pete Guerriero (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) and
John Gallina (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) have been named as All-Americans by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
Guerriero has earned first team honors for every organization that has released its All-American teams. Both Guerriero and Gallina were All-ECAC selections and all-conference selections after the 2019 historic season.
Guerriero, a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, led the nation in rushing with 1,995 yards and 20 total touchdowns including 18 on the ground. He was a second-team selection by the AFCA in 2017. The first team all-league honoree finished with 166.5 all-purpose yards which is fourth in the FCS in all-purpose yards. Guerriero set the Monmouth record for yards in a season and ranks second all-time in every other rushing category with one season remaining. He closed out the season with 200+ yards in four of his last seven games including a NCAA playoff win against Holy Cross.
Berry was named AFCA Second Team All-American after registering 43 tackles and five pass breakups on the season. The two-time first team all-conference selection had four different games with six tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown against Kennesaw State. The captain finishes his career third all-time in Monmouth with 36 passes defended while recording 188 tackles in four seasons for the Blue & White.
Gallina started all 14 games at guard for the Blue & White, leading the way for one of the top offenses in the FCS. The Hawks rolled up 6,617 yards of total offense and 35.8 points per game while over 14 team and individual school records were written. For the first time in school history the Hawks had two players on the Walter Payton Award Watch List in Guerriero and quarterback
Kenji Bahar. Three of Monmouth's five starting offensive linemen have earned All-America honors this season.
