LAWRENCE, KS – Monmouth University Men's Basketball (1-3) was defeated by the #5 team in the country, the University of Kansas, on Friday night at Allen Fieldhouse by a 112-57 score.
Deion Hammond (Mitchellville, MD/Riverdale Baptist School) led all Hawks with 17 points, while
Ray Salnave (Elmont, NY/Benjamin N. Cardozo) scored in double figures for the fourth time in a row to open the season.
The Jayhawks jumped to a 21-2 lead before Hammond got hot in the middle part of the half, knocking in three triples in a stretch of just 2:25, one of which brought MU within 17 at 28-11. KU shot 62.5% in the first half and made eight from three to take a 59-21 lead into the locker room.
Kansas continued to shoot it well in the second half, converting on 50% from the field, led by David McCormack's 13 points. MU got four second-half field goals from Hammond and seven points, four rebounds from Salnave in the final 20 minutes. Nine of the 11 Hawks to see action in the game scored for the Blue and White.
