WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's soccer team defeated Rider by a 4-0 margin to secure the program's seventh consecutive MAAC Regular Season Championship on Saturday afternoon at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.
The Hawks were convincing in their efforts with two goals in each half to secure the victory, while holding Rider without a shot in the match.
Sarina Jones (Sicklerville, NJ / Timber Creek) opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a 30-yard run that ended with a right-footed shot from outside the penalty area that snuck under the crossbar.
Monmouth doubled its cushion when
Madie Gibson (Cape May, NJ / Lower Cape May) set up
Lexie Palladino (Medford, NJ / Shawnee) for a one-timed finish 15 minutes later.
Five minutes into the second half
Lauren Karabin (Wall, NJ / Wall / Brookdale) deflected home another Gibson cross as Monmouth built an insurmountable lead.
Jill Conklin (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) tacked on the Hawks' fourth goal in the final minutes off a free kick by
Megan Leffler (Livingston, NJ / Livingston) that hit the crossbar.
