WOMEN’S SOCCER COMPLETES UNBEATEN REGULAR SEASON

FINAL SCORE

Fairfield 0 (10-5-3, 7-2-1 MAAC)

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's soccer team completed its perfect conference regular season schedule with a 2-0 victory over Fairfield on Wednesday evening at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.

The game featured the top two teams in the MAAC standings and Monmouth prevailed to become the first team to complete its regular season with an unblemished record at 10-0-0.

Monmouth took advantage of a corner kick in the 22nd minute to secure the lead when Maddison Perna (Rockaway, NJ / Morris Knolls) headed home a Jess Johnson (Howell, NJ / The Hun School) service into the far side netting.

Fairfield had its chances in the match and forced Monmouth goalie Amanda Knaub (Enola, PA / Trinity) into making three saves. The Stags also nearly tied the game in the 88th minute when they hit the crossbar, but Monmouth cleared away the ensuing scramble to preserve the shutout.

Lexie Palladino (Medford, NJ / Shawnee) set up Madie Gibson (Cape May, NJ / Lower Cape May) in the final minute to run the final score to 2-0.

NOTES & QUOTES
"This was a terrific send off for an amazing group of seniors. They continued to build upon our culture of excellence and took it even further. They are wonderful ambassadors of our program in all facets of life. We didn't play our best soccer of the season tonight, but we earned another shutout and achieved one of our goals of being 10-0 in the MAAC. It is now time to focus on the championship part of our season and focus on the semifinals."
