STRONG GOALKEEPING PROPELS #23 MUFH OVER COLUMBIA IN SHOOTOUT

FINAL SCORE (2OT, SO)
Columbia 1 (6-7, 2-2 Ivy)
No. 23 Monmouth 2 (10-4, 3-0 AE)

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Ally Tarantino (Miller Place, NY / Miller Place) came in and made four saves in the shootout period to help secure No. 23 Monmouth field hockey's 2-1 victory over Columbia, Sunday afternoon in the regular season home finale on So Sweet A Cat Field.

Kate O'Hogan (Dublin, Ireland / Mount Anville Secondary) started the game in cage for the Blue and White and made five saves, one off her season high, to push the game to extra sessions.  After 20 minutes of overtime where both teams fired four shots and the Hawks' defensive corner unit spoiled a pair of corners, Tarantino came for the shootout.

Columbia's Brooke Gasser's first round attempts were cleared aside by the second-year Hawk.  Ireen Frenken (Tilburg, Netherlands / Odulphus Lyceum) converted in the first round for MU, while Tarantino spoiled the Lions' Kelsey Farkas' attempt to start the second round.  Graduate Stefanie Bigler (North Vancouver, BC / Seycove Secondary School) had her attempt cleared out of the circle, but Tarantino got the better of Allison Smith's try.  Annick van Lange (Sint-Job, Belgium / Annuntia Institute) was successful in the home half of the third round to put the Hawks up 2-0.  Tarantino dove towards the right post and pushed the ball away from Jaimie McCormick in the fourth round to secure the Hawks' fifth straight victory.

The Lions broke the ice 10 minutes into the game as Isabella Collins hammered in a loose rebound to give the visitors and early 1-0 lead.  van Lange converted a corner halfway through the second quarter to even things up.  The Hawks outshot the Lions 16-6 in the second half and overtime, while Columbia earned five attacking corners, but neither team could come up with the game-winner.
