WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS ROAD CONTEST AT QUINNIPIAC

HAMDEN, CT – Outscoring the Hawks in all four quarters, Quinnipiac remained undefeated in MAAC play with a 67-38 win over the Monmouth University women's basketball team on Saturday. The Bobcats forced 23 turnovers and scored 20 points off those turnovers, earning their 35th-straight conference win. Junior Sierra Green led the Hawks with 14 points in addition to five rebounds, three steals, and two assists in the loss. Monmouth falls to 5-9 (1-2 MAAC) on the season, and will look to even its conference record at Marist on Tuesday.
 
NOTES AND QUOTES

-It was a defensive battle early, as Quinnipiac led 4-2 at the first quarter media timeout (4:43). The Hawks held QU to just 2-9 from the floor during that span.
-After Monmouth scored the opening basket Quinnipiac ended the first quarter on a 13-2 run. The Hawks went just 2-11 from the floor in the opening frame.
-The Bobcats scored the first 10 points of the second quarter. Green ended it with a deep triple to make it 23-7.
-By halftime, Quinnipiac compiled a 35-14 lead, scoring 14 points off 15 Monmouth turnovers.
 -In a back-and-forth third quarter, Monmouth was edged 14-12. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Bobcats led 49-26.
-Quinnipiac kept its foot on the gas in the fourth, eventually taking the 67-38 victory. The Bobcats had four players go into double figures in the game.
 
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Green scored in double figures for the 11th time in 14 games. She leads the team with 14.7 points per game.
-The Bobcats went 9-22 (40.9%) from three-point range, while the Hawks went 3-20 (15.0%).
-Monmouth only attempted nine free throws, and made just three of them. Quinnipiac went 14-23 from the stripe.
-Junior Emani Clough matched a season high with six rebounds.
-Freshman Lucy Thomas registered seven points and four rebounds in the loss.
 
UP NEXT
The Hawks will head to Poughkeepsie, NY to face Marist on Tuesday. The Red Foxes hold a slight 22-20 all-time series lead. Last season, Marist earned a 69-46 victory at McCann Arena.
