HANNA’S LAST MINUTE GOAL LIFTS FH OVER BUCKNELL, 3-2

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ–  Senior Kelly Hanna scored with 24 seconds left in regulation to give the Monmouth University field hockey team a 3-2 victory over Bucknell, Sunday afternoon on So Sweet A Cat Field.  The Hawks, who trailed by two goals early in the first half, improve to 5-5 with the victory, while the Bison slip to 5-4 (2-0).

With under a minute to play, the Hawks worked the ball into the circle where freshman Annick van Lange sent a shot on cage that was blocked by Bucknell's goalkeeper, Olivia Harris, but the ball caromed right to Hanna who knocked in the game-winner, her team-leading sixth goal of the year.

Bucknell scored twice within the first 21 minutes of the game, both off corners, to jump out to the early lead.  The Hawks cut the deficit in half seven minutes before the break as sophomore Ireen Frenken swept the ball into the circle from just beyond the 25-yard line.  Junior Josephine van der Hoop got a touch on the ball and redirected it inside the left post.  The Hawks evened things up in the 41st minute as a loose ball off a corner made its way to van der Hoop who sent it toward the far post where van Lange was there to fire it into the netting.
