PRINCETON, NJ – Playing its second straight top-10 opponent, the Monmouth University field hockey team fell to fifth-ranked Princeton, 4-1, Friday afternoon at Bedford Field.
Princeton scored on a pair of penalty corners in the opening half. Hannah Schiavo blocked the initial shot in the 16th minute, but the rebound caromed back to Elise Wong who put the Tigers up ahead, 1-0. Princeton added to its lead five minutes later on Mary Kate Neff's tally to take a 2-0 lead into the break. The Tigers continued its strong offensive start 10 minutes into the second half, scoring on a redirected goal, before freshman Natalie McNamara found the back of the cage to stop Princeton's run. Princeton capped off the scoring with its fourth goal in the 65th minute.
Gabi Millan finished the afternoon with seven saves in cage.

- Today's game was the first meeting between Monmouth and Princeton since 2014 when the two teams met in the NCAA Play-In game in West Long Branch.
- The Tigers are the Hawks' third ranked opponent of the season and become the highest-ranked opponent since 2015 (No. 2 Syracuse). The 2015 campaign was also the last time the Blue and White have faced top-10 opponents in back-to-back games (No. 5 Albany and No. 2 Syracuse).
- The Hawks fall to 0-4 all-time against their in-state foe.
- Natalie McNamara recorded her second goal of the season, scoring in her second straight-game.
- Sophomore Ireen Frenken registered the assist the Hawks' goal.
