HAWKS POWER PAST HOFSTRA TUESDAY, 10-3

HEMPSTEAD, NY – Monmouth got a complete-game performance from Tyler Ksiazek (South Abington Township, PA/Abington Heights) and home runs from Pete Papcun (Brick, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and Max Goione (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven/Siena) to win its fifth in a row, 10-3 Tuesday at Hofstra. Monmouth has won 16 of its last 19 games and split the season series with the Pride.

Papcun got things started quickly for the Hawks, launching a three-run home run with one down in the first to give MU a 3-0 lead immediately. That lead ballooned to 6-0 when Ryan Steckline (Newark, DE/Appoquinimink) and Danny Long (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) hit consecutive RBI doubles in the second, with Shaine Hughes (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) capping Monmouth's second straight three-run inning with an RBI single.

Hofstra scored single runs in the third and fourth, including a Teddy Cillis solo home run in the fourth to trim the deficit to 6-2. Goione begun his big afternoon in the sixth with a two-run single to left with two away to extend the MU lead, before homering for the first time as a Hawk in his next at bat in the eighth, a two-run shot. Mikey Riesner capped the scoring in the ninth for Hofstra with a solo home run, but Ksiazek struck out the side after that to end the game.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"Today was a very nice team win.  We competed at the plate, made the routine play, played with energy and pitched well. Ksiazek was excellent today, he pounded the zone and made big pitches when he needed to.  It was nice to see him go the distance." – Dean Ehehalt
"We were able to get up early and that always allows us to play relaxed.  It was nice to see Pete Papcun swing well today.  He got us going in the first and we were able to get three more in the second. Max Goione had a nice day for us, and was a big part of the offense today with his four RBI's. All in all a very solid day, and we're looking forward to our stretch run in the conference." –Ehehalt
