Nicola Pipoli of the Monmouth University men's tennis team has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced today. Pipoli went a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 at No. 1 doubles, propelling the Hawks to their second straight MAAC Regular Season Championship.
Against Rider on Wednesday, Pipoli earned the 6-3, 6-0 victory, and teamed up with freshman
Will Cooke Wharton for the 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
In the sweep over Quinnipiac on Saturday, Pipoli earned the 6-4, 6-2 win over Julian Rozenstein in singles play, and teamed up with Cooke Wharton for the 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
The Hawks secured a perfect 7-0 MAAC record with a winat Marist on Sunday. Pipoli defeated the 2017 unanimous MAAC Player of the Year Javier Restrepo by a score of 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and won 7-5 at No. 1 doubles.
Pipoli finished the regular season with a perfect 7-0 record in MAAC No. 1 singles play. In his career, the junior is 17-1 in conference singles play.
The Polignano a Mare, Italy native won a MAAC Championship in each of his first two years with the team, and was named Most Outstanding Performer last season after winning No. 1 singles against Marist, 6-2, 6-2. He also won at No. 2 doubles at the MAAC Championship, 6-6 (7-3).
The Hawks return to action this Saturday, when they face No. 4 Fairfield in the MAAC semifinals. The winner moves on to Sunday's championship match, scheduled for 10:00 AM.
