NEW ROCHELLE, NY  – After winning its 11th-consecutive game and improving to 9-0 in the MAAC, the Monmouth University softball team fell to Iona in game two for the split. Senior Amanda Riley pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout in the game one win, adding 11 strikeouts. Sophomore Amber Wozniak was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in game one, as the Hawks ran away with the 4-0 win. Sophomore Kayla Rosado batted 2-for-3 with three RBI in game two, but Iona took the eventual 6-3 win to snap Monmouth's second-longest winning streak in program history. The Hawks' record now stands at 19-14 (9-1 MAAC) on the season, and the team will travel to Quinnipiac tomorrow for a doubleheader.

NOTES
"In game one, obviously Amanda threw very well. She and [catcher Alex Holzman] did a great job of keeping them off balance. Offensively, we took advantage of our opportunities and had fantastic at-bats. In game two, we weren't very sharp and made a couple of key mistakes defensively that gave them opportunities, and they took advantage of it. It was a tough way to end the day, but there were still a lot of positives to come out of the games, and we look forward to getting back on the field tomorrow." – Monmouth head coach Shannon Salsburg
-In game one, Monmouth loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fourth inning. Senior Chloe Howerth led off with an infield single, followed by a single from Baron. Rosado then reached on a fielder's choice, as the shortstop threw to third base to get the lead runner, but the ball was dropped.
-Wozniak came through with an RBI single up the middle to score Howerth, and the Hawks took the 1-0 lead. Junior Jasmine Higa was up next, and hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field to score Baron.
-In the top of the sixth, Baron led off with a single to left field. Two batters later, Wozniak crushed the two-run homer to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead.
-Riley pitched one of the best games of her career, shutting down the Gaels in the seventh inning for the complete-game, two-hit shutout.
-In game two, sophomore Sam Tomasetti led off the game with a triple. Rosado eventually sent her home with a single to center field, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Wozniak doubled the next at bat, but was thrown out at home.
-Iona scored three runs in the bottom of the first to go ahead 3-1, including a two-RBI single and an RBI single.
-Rosado came through again in the top of the fifth, tying the game at 3 with a two-RBI single. Tomasetti and Howerth scored on the play.
-The Gaels regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single, giving them a 4-3 advantage. They would later add two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the eventual 6-3 win.
