FAIRFAX, VA – The Monmouth University softball team fell to Syracuse on Sunday morning, 6-1, before dropping a 4-1 decision to host George Mason. Sophomore
Sam Tomasetti registered three of Monmouth's seven hits on the day, while senior
Amanda Riley pitched a total of 6.0 innings with three strikeouts. Sophomore
Amber Wozniak hit an RBI single against Syracuse, and Tomasetti hit an RBI single against George Mason. The Hawks fall to 4-4 on the season, and will travel to California from March 9-18. The team is scheduled to play 13 games on the road trip.

NOTES
-In game one against Syracuse, the Orange took an early 1-0 lead in the first with a sacrifice fly.
-Syracuse would later score three runs in the fifth inning to give it a 4-0 cushion. The runs included a two-RBI triple and an RBI single.
-The Orange tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh, including an RBI double and an RBI single.
-Monmouth registered its first hit of the game in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Tomasetti double to center field. She was brought home by Wozniak, who hit an RBI single to center field.
-In game two against George Mason, the Patriots scored the first three runs in the bottom of the third.
-The Hawks got one back in the top of the fourth on Tomasetti's RBI single, but that would be Monmouth's lone run.
-After adding a run in the bottom of the fifth, George Mason eventually took the 4-1 win.
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Tomasetti went 3-for-6 with a double, a run, and an RBI on the day.
-Senior
Katie Baron went 2-for-3 with a run against George Mason.
-Wozniak leads the team with nine RBI this season.
-Sophomore
Megan Stauffer pitched 4.2 innings on the day, picking up five strikeouts.
