BASEBALL FALLS TO MARIST IN EXTRAS, 4-3 SUNDAY

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Monmouth Baseball scored three times in the final two innings after trailing 3-0, but Marist scored in the 10th inning to take the rubber game of a three-game series Sunday in Poughkeepsie. Randy Taveras' RBI single in extras proved to be the winner for the Red Foxes.

Andrew Rouse got Marist on the board in the third, and Frankie Gregoire's RBI single later in the frame made it 2-0 Red Foxes. Reese Armitage homered in the fourth to extend the lead to 3-0.

MU battled back in the eighth, when Danny Long (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Kyle Norman's (Ellicott City, MD/Good Counsel) ground out. Headed to the ninth trailing by two, the first two Hawks reached and went to second and third on a wild pitch. Zach Schild (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) plated one with a ground out before freshman pinch hitter Matt Graber (Newton, MA/Dexter) lifted a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

Marist loaded the bases in the 10th with one away, doing so with a walk and two hit by pitches. Taveras hit a walk-off single through the left side to lift Marist to the extra-inning win and series victory.

NOTES AND QUOTES

-Danny Long posted his second multi-hit game of the year, and first since February 23rd against St. John's.
-Dan Klepchick struck out four, his second highest output of the season.
-Zach Schild has now hit in 15 consecutive starts dating back to last season.
-Jordan McCrum fired three shutout innings in his longest outing of the season.
-Ryan Steckline took the first loss of his career.
-MU concludes the weekend having made just one error.
-Kyle Norman had his streak of 17 games reaching base snapped.
-The game was Monmouth's first extra inning contest this season.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-MU was outhit 12-5 in the game.
-Monmouth pitching walked just three in 10 innings.
-The 2-4 batters in the Marist lineup all had two hits.
-The Hawks are 5-13, 1-2 in MAAC play while Marist is now 7-11, 2-1 in conference.

UP NEXT
-Monmouth will play its home opener on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. against Hofstra.
