BASEBALL DOWNED BY LEHIGH SATURDAY, 10-3

RICHMOND, VA – Monmouth Baseball was defeated by Lehigh on Saturday afternoon, 10-3 in the middle game of the weekend's Spider Invitational in Richmond, VA. Monmouth was limited to just five hits, while Lehigh's Ryan Malloy drove in six runs in the game.

Malloy drove in the first three runs of the game before Monmouth climbed to within a run in the third, making it 3-2 on Kyle Norman's (Ellicott City, MD/Good Counsel) two-run single. Malloy responded for LU with a three-run double in the fifth to make it 6-2.

The Mountain Hawks added four in the seventh, the big blow coming on a Thomas Schumacher three-run home run. MU scratched out the game's final run in the last of the seventh, scoring on a Clay Koniencki (Schwenksville, PA/Malvern Prep) RBI double to close out the game's scoring.

NOTES AND QUOTES

-Kyle Norman extended his reached based streak to 14 games.
-Matt Graber made his first career start at the shortstop position.
-Ryan Steckline fired a scoreless inning, and has yet to allow a run through the first 5.2 innings of his career.
-Jordan McCrum made his season debut, firing a scoreless ninth inning.
-Joe Molettiere took his first loss in a month (2/17 at DBU).

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Levi Stoudt collected his second win for Lehigh
-Chris Butera picked up his first save of the year.
-Schumacher and Malloy combined to drive in nine of Lehigh's 10 runs.
-Stoudt struck out 11 in the game.
-Monmouth was outhit 10-5.
-Neither team made an error in the contest.
