North Dakota St. (15-7) - 1

LOS ANGELES, CA – Despite a historic day for Hawks pitcher Amanda Riley, the Monmouth University softball team was defeated in two games today, including a 7-2 setback against Colgate and a 1-0 margin against North Dakota State. Riley became the program's all-time strikeouts leader in game two, and now has 506 in her career to pass Kim Lyall (1999-2003). The senior went six innings against North Dakota State, giving up just two hits and one earned run while striking out nine batters. In the game one loss, sophomore Sam Tomasetti and senior Katie Baron each picked up two hits. Monmouth will get a rematch tomorrow against Colgate, with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 AM.

NOTES
"In game one, Colgate came out with a lot of energy and made us pay. Amanda threw an incredible game against North Dakota State, which is always a very good hitting team. At the end of the day, it was a pitcher's duel and they found a way to get a run across the plate. We had some chances but couldn't capitalize." – Monmouth head coach Shannon Salsburg
-In game one, Colgate scored two runs in the second inning and three runs in the third inning to go ahead 5-0.
-Monmouth scored two runs in the fifth to cut the deficit, including a run from Tomasetti on a Colgate error and a bases loaded walk from junior Jasmine Higa.
-Colgate added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 7-2 lead, which would end up as the final.
-In game two, North Dakota State hit an RBI double in the bottom of the second. That would prove to be the only run of the game, as Monmouth registered just one hit, and the Bison registered just two.

-Riley breaks a 15-year-old record, and has 506 strikeouts in 553.2 career innings. Last season, she shattered the single-season strikeouts record with 241. So far this season, she has fanned 62 batters.
-With another two hits today, Baron is now batting .414 on the season.
-Tomasetti is second on the team with a .308 batting average.
