FRESNO, CA – In two games today, the Monmouth University softball team fell to #17 California, 13-1, before falling to host Fresno State, 10-4. Sophomore
Sam Tomasetti launched her first home run of the season for Monmouth's lone run against California, and senior
Katie Baron led the Hawks at the plate against Fresno State, hitting a two-run home run and an RBI double. Baron's homer in the top of the fifth made it a 7-4 deficit, but the Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win. Monmouth drops to a 6-8 record on the season, and will remain in California for seven more games from March 14-18.

NOTES
-In game one, California scored a run in the first inning and added another four in the fourth inning.
-The Hawks got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, as Tomasetti hit her first home run of the season to left field.
-The Bears added eight runs in the top of the seventh inning, eventually taking the 13-1 win.
-In game two, Fresno State scored two runs in the first inning on a single and throwing error.

Amanda Riley hit an RBI single in the second inning to score freshman
Katie Harrington.
-Fresno State took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second on a RBI double.
-In the top of the third, Baron doubled down the left field line to score Tomasetti.
-Fresno State took the 7-2 lead with four runs in the third and fourth.
-In the top of the fifth, Baron launched a two-run home run to score Tomasetti. It would not be enough, however, as the Bulldogs added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to eventually earn the 10-4 win.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Baron now leads the team with a .413 batting average, and also leads the team with five home runs.
-Tomasetti went 2-for-5 with a home run, an RBI, and three runs on the day.
-Senior
Alex Holzman hit a double against Fresno State.
-With 489 career strikeouts, Riley is second in program history. She needs just nine more to set the program record.

UP NEXT
The Hawks will remain in California to take on Loyola Marymount on Wednesday. Monmouth will then face Long Beach State on Thursday.
