ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Monmouth University men's tennis team picked up two wins on Saturday, including a 4-2 margin over Navy and a 4-0 sweep of Villanova. After losing the doubles point against Navy, Monmouth earned the win from four singles wins. Junior
Srdjan Jakovljevic picked up a win at No. 2 singles, while sophomore
Sergio Martinez and freshman Cooke Wharton won at No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles, respectively. At No. 1, junior
Nicola Pipoli earned the 6-1, 7-6 victory. At No. 4, junior
Alberto Giuffrida came away with the 6-4, 6-1 victory. In the sweep against Villanova, the combinations of Jakoljevic/Martinez at No. 2 and Giuffrida/Cooke Wharton at No. 3 gave Monmouth the doubles win. In singles play, Jakovljevic won at No. 1, Gomez Estrada won at No. 2, and Martinez won at No. 5. The Hawks improved to 3-8 on the season, and will face Columbia next Saturday.
