CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Monmouth University men's tennis team competed in three matches this weekend, including a win at George Washington and losses to Georgetown and Virginia. The Hawks dropped a 5-2 decision to Georgetown on Friday, with junior Nicola Pipoli and junior Srdjan Jakovljevic earning wins at No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles, respectively. On Saturday, Monmouth earned the convincing 6-1 win over George Washington, with Pipoli, Jakovljevic, Alberto Giuffrida, Sergio Martinez, and Will Cooke Wharton all picking up singles wins. Pipoli and Giuffrida also earned the win at No. 1 doubles. On Sunday, the Hawks fell to defending three-time NCAA Champion Virginia, 4-2. Senior Ale Gomez Estrada earned the 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, while sophomore Sergio Martinez took the advantage at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-2. The Hawks will return to action next weekend for the ECAC Championships.
