FARRI LEADS TWELVE HAWKS ON ALL-BIG SOUTH TEAMS

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ- Monmouth true freshman running back Juwon Farri (Germantown, MD/Northwest) has been named Big South Offensive Freshman of the Year and was one of 12 Hawks to earn 2018 all-conference honors, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon.

Farri, who was also a First Team All-Big South selection, led the run-centric conference with 1,024 yards on 139 carries with eight touchdowns. His 7.4 yards per carry was fifth in the NCAA and led the BSC. Farri tied the Monmouth record with 263 all-purpose yards in a win over Campbell, earning himself STATS National FCS Freshman of the Week. He was a four-time Big South Freshman of the Week and earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after his performance against the Camels. His 7.4 yards per carry set a new Monmouth record, eclipsing the old mark of 6.0 yards per carry set by Pete Guerriero and K.B. Asante.

Joining Farri on the first team were wideout Reggie White Jr. (Randallstown, MD/Milford Mill), tight end Jake Powell (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), offensive tackle Russ Clayton (Monroe, NJ/Monroe), offensive guard Ryan Wetzel(Freehold, NJ/Colts Neck), cornerback Tymere Berry (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South), place kicker Matt Mosquera (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) and punt returner Vinny Grasso (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan). Monmouth also had four second team selections in second team Kenji Bahar (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall), running back Pete Guerriero (Lyndhurtst, NJ/Lyndhurst), center Pete Righi (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson Fair-Haven) and defensive back Justin Terry (Brooklyn, NY/Christ the King).

White Jr. earns his third consecutive first team all-conference honor after leading the league in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. The Randallstown, MD product had a school record 1,133 yards which is third most in Big South history while his 11 touchdowns is fifth most in school history. White Jr. finishes as the Monmouth and the league's all-time leader in receptions (249) and reception yardage (3,471). He closed out his career catching a pass in 44 out of 45 career games while starting every Monmouth contest over the past four seasons.

Powell earns back to back first team honors at tight end, despite missing six games due to injury. He led all conference tight ends with 15 catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns.  Offensive linemen Russ Clayton and Ryan Wetzel earn first team accolades as fifth-year seniors after starting every game for the Blue & White. The Monmouth offensive line cleared the way for two all-confernce backs and a quarterback who set the school record for yards in a season. Clayton was a preseason selection while Wetzel earned Preseason All-America honors and is a two-time all-conference player.

Berry, a second team selection in 2017, is the lone defensive player to earn first team honors for the Hawks. Berry, a team captain along with Wetzel, led the team with 60 tackles and had a pair of interceptions and a forced fumble. The Toms River, NJ product finished fourth in league among defensive backs in tackles and had 10 passes defended on the season.

Mosquera becomes the first kicker to earn All-Big South honors after finishing fourth in the conference in scoring with 71 points. The junior set a new Monmouth record going perfect 41-for-41 on PATs while he was tops in field goal percentage among kickers with more than 10 attempts (10-of-12). He was a perfect 4-for-4 from 40+ yards out with a long of 49 yards in the win over Presbyterian.  Additionally, Mosquera was named to the Big South All-Academic Team.

Senior Vinny Grasso joins Mosquera as a Monmouth specialist on the first team; earning accolades as the top punt returner in the Big South. Grasso led the conference in punt return yardage with 265 yards (third most in conference history) on 25 returns. Averaged 10.6 yards per return and set a school and league record with 137 yards on six returns against Campbell. Grasso, who was 13th in the NCAA in combined kick returns, recorded returns of 49 and 62 yards on the season.

Bahar becomes the first All-Big South selection at quarterback for the Hawks after leading the conference in passing yards, efficiency, yards per game, yards per completion and passing touchdowns. The junior tied a Big South record with a career-high five touchdown passes against Gardner-Webb while accounting for 23 total touchdowns on the season. Bahar had three games with 300+ yards passing and led the Big South in total offense at 251 yards per game.

Guerriero earns Big South honors in back to back seasons after amassing 918 yards despite missing two games. The former Big South Freshman of the Year led the conference in all-purpose yards per game at 120.5 and eclipsed the 100-yard plateau five times during the year. Helping lead the way for Guerriero was Righi, who earns his first all-conference nod after moving over to center for his senior season. Righi was part of an offensive unit that set a new school record with 5.046 yards and averaged 33.2 points per game.

Terry, a sophomore cornerback, earns his first all-conference spot after starting all 11 games for the Blue & White. The Brooklyn, NY native tied for the league lead in pass breakups with 12 while finishing with 46 tackles. In a win over Campbell Terry set the school and conference record with seven pass breakups.

Monmouth's 12 all-conference selections is the most for the program since joining the Big South in 2014. White Jr. and Farri are finalists for national awards including the Walter Payton Award and the Jerry Rice Award. The Hawks finished the season with an 8-3 record and a 4-1 mark in the conference play.
