West Long Branch, NJ-Â Monmouth University football players Juwon Farri (Germantown, MD/Northwest), Justin Terry (Brooklyn, NY/Christ the King) and Vinny Grasso (Toms River, NJ/Donovan Catholic) have earned Big South Conference weekly honors, league officials announced on Monday afternoon.
Farri, a three-time Freshman of the Week honoree, earns his first Offensive Player of the Week award after tying the school record for all-purpose yards with 263 in Monmouth's 38-21 win over Campbell last weekend. Making his second career start, Farri rushed for 239 yards, nine short of setting the school record. Farri found the endzone twice in the game, once from a yard out and once from 24 yards out – each pushed the MU lead to 10 points. Farri averaged 10.9 yards per rush in the contest, with a long of 60. He also caught a pair of passes with a long of 25 in the win. The freshman, who has only started two games for the Blue & White, currently leads the Big South in rushing and has had four 100+ yard performances in seven career contests.
Terry earns his first Defensive Player of the Week Award after having a career-day for the Hawks, breaking up a conference-record seven passes in the Monmouth win. Four of his pass breakups came on third downs, with three directly leading to Camel punts. Terry and the Monmouth defense held Campbell, a team that averages 200 ypg rushing to just 55 yards on 22 attempts and 7-for-21 on third downs. The sophomore also chipped in four tackles, including two solo stops in the contest.
Grasso picked up Special Teams Player of the Week after his electric day returning punts and kicks for the Hawks, finishing with 146 yards on eight total returns. Grasso recorded punt returns of 23 and 43 yards but it was his carrer-long 62 yarder that came within one yard of giving the senior his second career PR for a TD. Two plays later Devell Jones piled in to give MU a 31-10 lead. Grasso finished with 154 total yards in the Monmouth win. Grasso, who has 199 punt return yards this season, is average 11.0 yards per return and is 59 yards away from the single-season MU record.
Monmouth is 5-2 on the season and is receiving votes in the STATS FCS Top-25. The Hawks will head to Clinton, SC to face Presbyterian at 2:30 on Saturday. That game can be heard on the Shore Sports Network or viewed on ESPN+.
