WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Micah Seaborn was taken in the first round of the 2018 NBA G League Draft on Saturday, selected 19

th most in school history.
"It was a great moment for me when I found out," said Seaborn. "I put in a lot of hard work through these last few years to get to this moment. It was a great and humbling experience for me to know that a team thought that highly of me to take me in the first round. I talked to the coach, the president and the GM and it just seemed like they're really excited about me being there so I can't wait to start this journey with them."
Seaborn closed his MU career as the program's all-time leader in career free throw percentage at 84.7 percent. He tied with both Dwayne Byfield and Mustafa Barksdale with exactly 1,144 career points, 14
th all time. His career scoring average of 13.5 points per game marks 11
th in MU history, tying him with William Lewis, and his eight three-pointers against South Carolina State on 11/26/16 are the second most in a game in Hawks history. He became the fourth fastest player to score 1,000 points in MU history last December. The guard was the 2016 MAAC Rookie of the Year, while also earning spots on the league's All-Rookie and Third Teams that season. In 2016-17, Seaborn was a Preseason All-MAAC Second Teamer before leaping to the First Team in the postseason, while collecting All-District and All-MET honors as well.
"I couldn't be happier for Micah to be drafted into the G League," said Monmouth Head Coach
King Rice. "I know how unbelievably hard he's worked to get here, and I'm so excited for him to get this opportunity. When he came here as a freshman his dream was to be a pro and now he's on his way. He's in town right now so when he found out he got picked, he ran over to me and we embraced, and it was a great moment for us. This is huge for Micah and he deserves it."
Seaborn joins several former teammates in playing professional basketball, including ex-Hawk and Seaborn's former high school teammate
Je'lon Hornbeak, who played in 32 games last season for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the G League.
"Coach Rice was so happy for me because he knows everything that's happened with me and how hard I've worked and we're real close with each other," said Seaborn. "He told me what a big step this was for me and how proud he was. I talked to him and the rest of the Monmouth coaching staff and they were so excited for me. It's a great day, I didn't know I was going to get drafted that high so it felt so good to be picked and know where I'll be going."
Seaborn will join the team immediately. The Drive open the 2018-19 regular season on Friday, November 2
nd against the Erie Bayhawks.
