West Long Branch, NJ – Abdi Bashir Jr. became the third Monmouth University Men's Basketball player in program history to earn a spot on the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association First Team, the organization announced Wednesday morning.
Bashir is the third player at MU to ever earn All-MET First Team, joining Justin Robinson, who did so twice in 2016 and 2017, and
Xander Rice, who earned the honor last season.
Bashir shattered both the Monmouth and CAA records for made three pointers this season with 127, and led the nation in three pointers per game with 3.85. He was the national leader in total three pointers made through the month of March, ultimately finishing second, and was second in the country in three-point attempts. Bashir was the leading scorer in the CAA and 25
th nationally, ranking 16
th in points per game, and was fifth in the NCAA in field goal attempts.
Bashir is the sixth total Hawk ever to earn All-MBWA honors, joining Robinson and Rice,
Micah Seaborn (Third Team – 2017), Deion Hammond (Second Team – 2020, 2021) and George Papas (Third Team – 2022).
