Jake Areman to give the Monmouth University men's soccer team the 2-0 win over Penn in the home opener Friday night, 2-0. Junior
Bobby Edwards kept the Quakers off the board for his second shutout of the season, and the Hawks improved to a 2-1 record on the season. Monmouth will travel to #19 West Virginia on Monday for a 3:30 PM kickoff.

-Edwards improved to 2-1 on the season with two shutouts. He made two saves in the victory, including a point blank opportunity in the first half for Penn.
-In his 18
th start, Martinez scored his first career goal to put Monmouth ahead in the 42
nd minute. Frisch-Harmon send a long, bending ball to the far post to find Martinez, who volleyed it to the back of the net. In his first career start, Frisch-Harmon picked up his first assist.
-In the 53
rd minute, Areman played a similar bending far post ball that found the foot of Schaefer, who netted his third career goal. Areman now leads the team with two assists on the season.
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Penn outshot Monmouth by a tally of 12-9, including six each in the second half.
-Sophomore forward
Donovan Pollock led the team with three shots on the evening.
-Nine out of Monmouth's 11 players went the distance and played all 90 minutes. Freshman

Andrew Gee also saw the field.
-Through three games, Edwards and the Monmouth defense have only given up one goal, which came from a penalty kick at College of Charleston.

The Hawks will travel south to take on #19 West Virginia on Monday. Kick-off from Morgantown, WV is slated for 3:30 PM. Monmouth and West Virginia have split the all-time series with one win each. The Mountaineers took the series opener in 2002, but the #15 Hawks earned the thrilling double-overtime win in the 2010 meeting.
