[2OT]
Monmouth Hawks (2-1-1) – 0
West Virginia Mountaineers  (3-0-1) - 0

MORGANTOWN, WV – Behind junior goalkeeper Bobby Edwards' third shutout of the season, the Monmouth University men's soccer team played #14 West Virginia to a scoreless draw on Monday afternoon. Monmouth kept the Mountaineers to minimal scoring opportunities, as the back line in front of Edwards remained strong. Redshirt freshman John Antunes and sophomore George Akampeke both registered two shots on the afternoon, and the Hawks earned the hard fought tie to advance their record to 2-1-1 on the season. Monmouth will return home for a 7:00 PM matchup with UMBC on Saturday.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"It was a big result for our program against a team that is ranked top-20 in the country. The guys had tired legs after Friday's game and travel, so I give them credit for being able to come into this big time program and get a tie on the road. There are a lot of new faces in the group, but different players continue to step up and be difference makers. This experience will give us something to build on moving forward." – Head Coach Robert McCourt
- GK Bobby Edwards was strong through the first 10 minutes, punching away a dangerous cross then making a point-blank save on a turnaround shot near the six-yard box.
-The Hawks got their first chance in the 20th minute after John Antunes gathered a rebound in close, but the West Virginia defender barely got a leg on it to pop it up in the air, making it possible for the keeper to make the save.
-Monmouth got the first chance of the second half in the 54th minute, as Areman bended a corner kick to the near post that found the head of George Akampeke, but the shot sailed just high.
-In the 70th minute, Antunes dribbled through multiple West Virginia defenders towards the middle of the field and ripped a shot from the 18, but it floated high.
-West Virginia put together some passes inside the box in the 79th minute, but the Hawks stood tall and cleared without a shot attempt.
-With five minutes to play in the second overtime period, Areman dribbled through the left side and launched a shot from beyond the 18, but it drifted wide right.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Despite the advantage in total shots, West Virginia only had the 3-2 edge in shots on goal.

-West Virginia took nine corner kicks to Monmouth's six.
-Redshirt senior Colin Stripling earned his 54th career start.
