WOMEN'S LACROSSE SEASON ENDS AT NIAGARA, 16-4

Box Score

LEWISTON, NY- Niagara University (9-9, 5-3 MAAC) used 11 consecutive goals in the first half to put an end to Monmouth University's (6-12, 4-4 MAAC) season and advance the Purple Eagles to the 2017 MAAC Tournament Semifinals.

Monmouth's Caroline Corbliss (Marriottsville, MD/Marriotts Ridge) got the scoring started early and the Hawks pushed their lead to 2-1 with a Jenny Staines (Silver Spring, MD/Good Counsel) goal with 25:52. It would be all Purple Eagles for the remainder of the first half, as they converted turnovers in goals despite MU netminder Riley Brager (Reisterstown, MD/Roland Park) saving multiple shots to keep the Hawks in it. Niagara exploded for 11 goals over a 14 minute period, a run that was only stopped with just over two minutes left on an Alexa Smith (Westhampton Beach, NY/Westhampton Beach) goal.

The second half started as a defensive battle with Monmouth tallying the first goal and Niagara scoring four to earn the 16-4 victory. Brager finished tying her career-high with 15 saves in net for the Blue & White. Niagara's Rachel Maccheyne led all scorers with seven points on six goals, while Hailey D'Hont had three and three other Purple Eagles had two apiece. Defender Alexandra Higgons dominated the draw circle with nine draws in the contest.
